The concept of Thursday Night mishmar is well known in the Yeshiva world. It's almost become a tradition. Some say it started because Fridays are usually an off day with no scheduled classes and since the boys know that they don’t have to be awake and erudite the next day, they are free to stay up late Thursdays and learn extra. Others say that it has a more esoteric source. As the week ends and the promise of Shabbat hovers in the air, the yetzer hara is hard at work trying to prevent the influx of holiness. On Thursday nights, he tries especially hard to ensure that his impurity will permeate. Thus, to counteract the negative forces that exist on this night, some stay up late, completely engrossed in Torah. Lev Aharon has a Thursday Night Mishmar program every week that we hope will not only keep the boys in check but offer them inspiration. A guest speaker is usually invited to address the yeshiva and the luscious poppers and tantalizing cholent make it a hard evening to miss. This past week, our very own R' Zechariah Javaheri one of our Kollel members, spoke about his life story. Starting with his father's daring escape from Iran and segueing into his upbringing as a die hard Lakers fan in Los Angeles, he had the boys mesmerized as he discussed the ups and downs in his life that led him to embrace the path of Torah Judaism. His words and his stories were a true inspiration! Thank you Reb Zechariah!
